Tool: AI Readiness Scan

The scan that tells you what AI agents actually think of your business.

In under 30 seconds, Faro runs 30+ checks across 6 categories, the same signals that ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and procurement agents use to decide whether to recommend you, skip you, or get you completely wrong.

The shift

Search changed your business once.
AI agents are about to do it again.

When Google launched, businesses that adapted early (adding meta tags, building sitemaps, earning backlinks) pulled ahead of competitors who didn't. The window to act was short. Within a few years, SEO wasn't optional; it was the cost of being found online.

We're at the same inflection point with AI agents. ChatGPT now has over 200 million weekly active users. Perplexity is processing over 100 million queries per day. Claude, Gemini, and dozens of vertical AI agents are being embedded into procurement platforms, HR software, and CRM tools. These agents don't click through pages and read marketing copy. They crawl, parse, and evaluate, and they do it in milliseconds.

What they find, or fail to find, determines who they recommend. A company with clean structured data, an explicit llms.txt, transparent pricing, and open crawler permissions gets recommended. A company with a misconfigured robots.txt, no schema markup, and pricing hidden behind a "talk to sales" wall gets skipped. Neither company necessarily knew the difference was being evaluated.

The companies that understand this shift in 2025 will own the recommendations their competitors are still waiting to earn in 2028.

“By 2026, 30% of enterprise software buying decisions will involve an AI agent in the evaluation process.”

What the scan checks

30+ checks. 6 categories. One score.

Each check targets a specific signal that AI agents use when evaluating your site. Together they produce a score from 0 to 100 and a letter grade: your AI readiness baseline.

Agent Permissions

Are GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended (Gemini), and other AI crawlers allowed in your robots.txt? Faro also checks your Content-Signal header: the emerging standard for declaring AI content permissions, and whether your server supports Markdown content negotiation for token-efficient agent responses.

Content Discoverability

Does your site have a sitemap, an llms.txt, canonical tags? Faro also checks your HTTP Link response header: this advertises your llms.txt and discovery files to AI agents before they even read the page. Less than 3% of sites have it.

Structured Data

JSON-LD schema tells AI agents what your business does, who it's for, and how to categorize it. Faro checks for Organization schema, sameAs entity links (Wikidata, LinkedIn, Crunchbase), and an OKF bundle: Google's Open Knowledge Format for AI agent knowledge graphs.

Pricing Transparency

Procurement agents compare vendors automatically. Faro checks whether your pricing is machine-readable in plain HTML, whether actual price figures are visible (not just 'Contact us'), and whether pricing is linked from your main navigation.

Agent Infrastructure

Faro checks your MCP Server Card (/.well-known/mcp.json), A2A Agent Card (/.well-known/agent.json), Agent Skills file, Auth.md, OpenAPI specification, and OAuth discovery endpoint: the protocol layer that lets AI agents take actions in your product, not just read about it.

Trust & Identity

Faro checks for contact information, an About page, a privacy policy, and terms of service. Enterprise AI procurement agents use these as hard trust gates. A missing privacy policy is an automatic disqualifier in regulated industries.

Real-world examples

What Faro finds on real sites

These are illustrative audits based on publicly observable signals, the same checks Faro runs on any domain. None of these companies are Faro customers.

Shopify

E-commerce platform

71
out of 100
Grade B

What Faro found

Strong structured data and clear pricing pages, but robots.txt partially restricts AI crawlers from product documentation. Merchants on Shopify are less likely to appear in AI-generated shopping recommendations as a result.

Business impact

An estimated 15–20% of AI-driven product discovery queries that could surface Shopify merchants are blocked at the crawler level before they reach content.

The fix

Updating robots.txt to explicitly allow GPTBot and PerplexityBot across documentation paths would move this score above 80 within days.

Notion

Productivity software

63
out of 100
Grade C

What Faro found

Notion's public pages have inconsistent structured data: some templates include JSON-LD schema, most don't. When someone asks an AI agent to recommend a project management tool, Notion's positioning is fuzzy because agents can't reliably parse what it does.

Business impact

Users searching for 'best tool for team wikis' or 'alternative to Confluence' are less likely to see Notion recommended by AI assistants, despite it being a category leader.

The fix

Adding Organization and SoftwareApplication schema to the main marketing pages would immediately improve AI comprehension of what Notion is and who it's for.

Stripe

Payments infrastructure

79
out of 100
Grade B

What Faro found

Stripe is one of the most AI-ready companies in fintech. Excellent API documentation, clear pricing, and well-structured developer content. The main gap: llms.txt is absent, meaning there's no curated signal telling AI agents which documentation is authoritative.

Business impact

Stripe leads AI recommendations for payment infrastructure, but without llms.txt, agents occasionally surface outdated or third-party documentation ahead of official Stripe content.

The fix

A well-crafted llms.txt pointing agents to authoritative documentation would lock in Stripe's position at the top of AI recommendations for payments.

The future

Agent traffic will be the next category that defines winners and losers online.

Within 18 months, the majority of B2B software evaluations will involve an AI agent at some stage. Already, tools like Claude Computer Use, OpenAI Operator, and emerging vertical agents are browsing the web, filling forms, comparing SaaS tools, and booking demos on behalf of human buyers who never open a browser.

This isn't science fiction. It's the logical extension of what LLMs already do. When someone asks ChatGPT which CRM to use, the model evaluates your site as part of that query. When a procurement agent is tasked with comparing payment providers, it visits your pricing page, reads your API docs, and checks whether you have the signals it needs to make a confident recommendation.

The companies that are AI-ready today will be default recommendations tomorrow. The ones that aren't will find themselves invisible to an entire generation of buyers: buyers who never typed a search query, never clicked an ad, and never read a blog post. They just asked their AI and trusted the answer.
