How to use the AEO Citation Monitor
Track whether ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini recommend your business when asked about your category.
The AEO Citation Monitor runs live queries against ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini and tells you whether each model mentions your business when asked about your category. You get a citation rate (the percentage of queries that return a mention), per-model results, and your typical mention position. It's the direct measure of AI share of voice for your brand.
How to use it
Go to Dashboard and open AEO Citation Monitor. Enter your domain, then either use the suggested prompts Faro generates for your category or write your own. The suggested prompts are the most common queries buyers in your market ask AI models. You can run the monitor with one prompt or run multiple to get a broader citation rate estimate.
Click Run and Faro queries each AI model in real time. Results show which models mentioned your business, in what position, and how the citation rate looks across the full run.
Reading your citation rate
Your citation rate is the percentage of queries, across all models and all prompts, in which your business was mentioned. A rate above 60% signals strong AI share of voice in your category. A rate of 20–59% means you're present but inconsistent. Below 20% means AI models are largely not recommending your business in that space, even if you're well-known in your market.
The per-model breakdown matters: being cited by ChatGPT but not Claude, for example, suggests you're strong in OpenAI's training data or retrieval index but missing from Anthropic's. Different models update at different intervals and weight different signals, so model-level gaps give you a more actionable target than the overall rate alone.
Improving your citation rate
Citation rate is a downstream metric. It improves as you fix the upstream signals: AI readiness score, structured data, OKF bundle, fan-out query coverage, and llms.txt. The fastest way to identify what's holding your citation rate down is to run an AI Readiness Scan for the same domain and address the highest-priority failing checks first.
For Agency users, the Citation Monitor runs weekly monitoring and emails you when your citation rate changes. This is the metric to watch as you make site improvements, it reflects how AI models are actually responding to your changes in near real-time.
Availability
The AEO Citation Monitor is an Agency plan feature. It appears in the dashboard sidebar for Agency users and team members on Agency accounts. The Vertical AI Leaderboard (available to all Pro and Agency users) gives a related view at the category level if you're on Pro.
