Cloudflare Ships AEO Scoring, Agent Wallets, and MCP Traffic Detection
Cloudflare closed out its Agents Week with tools that score a site's readiness for AI agents, let agents pay for content and APIs through built-in wallets, and detect MCP traffic across its network. Perplexity folded its search and agent tooling into one API built around cited answers, and a federal appeals court cleared its shopping agent to keep operating on Amazon.
This Week's Signals
Cloudflare Launches Agent Readiness and AEO Scoring Tools
Why it matters for your score
Cloudflare's new Agent Readiness diagnostic checks robots.txt, sitemaps, Markdown availability, and support for protocols like MCP and A2A, while its Answer Engine Optimization tool tests actual citation and mention rates against Claude and GPT. For a marketer, that means the audit and the scoreboard now live inside the same infrastructure that already serves your site, not a separate vendor dashboard.
Cloudflare Debuts Wallets Letting AI Agents Pay for Content and APIs
Why it matters for your score
Account Wallets and Virtual Wallets give agents a way to pay for APIs and gated content directly, using spending caps, allowlists, and human-readable payment handles instead of a person typing in a card number. Any business selling access, data, or digital goods now has a live, mainstream path to being paid by an agent rather than just crawled by one.
Cloudflare Adds MCP Traffic Detection and a Security Dashboard
Why it matters for your score
Cloudflare Gateway can now flag MCP requests by protocol header and give administrators a dashboard showing which MCP servers agents are actually hitting, including unapproved 'shadow' ones. If your organization exposes tools or data over MCP, this is the first widely available way to see, and govern, which agents are showing up and what they are doing.
Perplexity Unifies Search and Agents Into One Cited API
Why it matters for your score
The new Agent API merges web search, URL fetching, and agent orchestration behind a single endpoint that builds citations into every retrieval step, and Perplexity says its fast tier already beats the old Sonar Pro on benchmark accuracy at a fraction of the cost. More products built on this kind of infrastructure means more surfaces where your citability, not your ranking, decides whether you get mentioned.
Appeals Court Clears Perplexity's Shopping Agent to Operate on Amazon
Why it matters for your score
The Ninth Circuit ruled that an agent acting on a user's instruction is legally the user, not the software company, accessing a retailer's site, reversing the injunction that had blocked Perplexity's Comet browser from shopping on Amazon. Retailers now have less legal room to simply ban agentic shoppers at the door, which puts more weight on making your own product pages readable and trustworthy to whatever agent shows up.
Emerging Audit Signals
Agent infrastructure and AEO measurement are converging inside the same vendors: the company that serves your site now also scores it and collects payment for agents that visit it.
Agent payments moved from protocol proposals to shipped consumer-facing products this month, with spending caps and identity handles doing the trust work that used to require a human.
Courts are treating agent actions as the user's own actions, which narrows how much retailers and platforms can rely on blanket bans against agentic shopping.
Protocol-level traffic like MCP is becoming visible and governable the way bot traffic already is, which means unmanaged AI access to your systems is getting easier to spot.
What to do this week
- 1
Check what your robots.txt and CDN rules currently do with MCP and agent traffic; if you cannot tell, treat that as the gap to close first.
- 2
If you sell digital goods, data, or API access, ask your payments provider whether it supports agent-initiated purchases yet, and what spending controls it offers, before an agent tries and fails.
- 3
Run your key product or service pages through Faro's AI Schema Creator to check whether the structured data an agent would need to cite you accurately actually exists.
