ChatGPT answers turn interactive as Google documents how to throttle Googlebot

GPT-6 started rolling out globally with interfaces instead of plain text answers. Google documented how to ask its crawlers to slow down, Anthropic cut small model input pricing by 90%, and 2 of Google's quieter visibility surfaces got wider and, for the first time, measurable.

This Week's Signals

1

GPT-6 rolls out globally with interactive interfaces instead of plain text answers

Why it matters for your score

When an answer can render a comparison table, a chart or a form, the shortlist you appear in stops being a paragraph and becomes an interface. Your prices, specs and availability need to be fields a model can place into a component, not sentences it has to parse.

2

Google adds Retry-After guidance to its crawl rate documentation

Source: Reduce Google crawl rate, Google crawler documentation ↗

Why it matters for your score

If crawler and agent load is straining your site, Google now documents the polite way to slow it: a 503 or 429 with a Retry-After header, and not for longer than a day or two. Blanket blocking is still the expensive option.

3

Anthropic drops Haiku input pricing to $0.10 per million tokens for prompts under 100k

Source: Introducing Claude Haiku 5.5, Anthropic ↗

Why it matters for your score

Haiku 4.5 cost $1.00 for the same million input tokens. Cheap small models are what make it affordable to point an agent at 50 supplier sites instead of 5, so expect more of your pages read by software and fewer humans doing the shortlisting.

4

Google Search profiles are now available in Canada and India as well as the US

Source: Create a new Search profile, Google Search Help ↗

Why it matters for your score

A Search profile is a Google-owned page that pulls your content together across platforms, open to anyone over 18 with 10,000 followers on YouTube, Instagram, X or TikTok. It is one of the few surfaces where you state what Google shows about you instead of letting it infer.

5

Google starts emailing site owners how many people picked them as a preferred source

Source: PPC Land ↗

Why it matters for your score

Preferred sources is reader-chosen distribution inside Google, and until now it came with no number. One site owner's email showed 4,345 selections as of 5 October. The count is not in Search Console, so the email is currently the only place you can see it.

6

An ad upload tool says 17.5% of its September batches came from AI agents

Source: PPC Land ↗

Why it matters for your score

Agents are not only reading sites, they are driving tools through MCP servers and command lines. If your product has an API or an MCP server, that is a distribution channel now. The figure is one vendor's unaudited count across 36,289 batches, so read it as a direction, not a benchmark.

Emerging Audit Signals

The answer layer is becoming an interface layer.

Text citations were countable; buttons, charts and forms are harder to measure and demand data structured well enough to render inside one.

Crawl policy has turned into a negotiation rather than a yes or no.

Google documents how to slow its crawlers, Cloudflare meters them, and the live question is how much load you will carry for agents, not whether you let them in.

Inference prices are falling faster than agent volume is rising, so the cost of an agent reading your entire site keeps dropping.

Attention scarcity is not coming back to save thin pages.

The levers that move AI visibility are increasingly ones you register for rather than optimise into: Search profiles, preferred sources, merchant and UCP hubs.

Being eligible is becoming the work.

Agents are moving from reading to operating.

APIs and MCP servers are turning into the place decisions get executed, not just researched.

What to do this week

  1. 1

Check what your site returns under crawler load. If you have ever rate-limited a bot with a 403 or a blanket block, swap it for a 503 or 429 with a Retry-After header, and confirm it clears inside a day or two.

  2. 2

Take your 10 highest-intent pages and move price, availability and specification out of prose into structured markup. If a model has to infer a number from a sentence, it will often skip you for a competitor it can read cleanly.

  3. 3

Claim the surfaces you already qualify for. If a founder or brand account clears 10,000 followers on YouTube, Instagram, X or TikTok, create the Google Search profile. If you publish regularly, add the preferred sources button and start logging the number.

  4. 4

Scan your own domain and your 2 closest competitors with /tools/ai-readiness-scan, then compare crawl access rather than content quality. The gap is usually in what you block, not in what you write.
